GO MUSTANGS!

Member highlight of the week: Senior, Levi Troudt!!
Levi Troudt is a senior in our Ag program and he has been in it since his freshman year. Currently he serves as our Chapter Treasurer. His SAE is working for Mertens Bros here in New Raymer. He also works on his family farm in Wiggins. He is actively involved in FFA, FBLA, Football, Basketball, Baseball, 4-H and the fire department.
Levi writes the following about his SAE, "My SAE is for my job at Mertens Bros. Inc. I work there full time in the summer and then only part time during school on the weekends. I am one three farm hands that are employed there. They are a farm and ranch operation, they farm corn, wheat, and millet. They also sell, clean, and treat seed wheat for planting. They sell corn finished fat cattle as well as grass/pasture finished. They have many acres of farmland as well as ranchland located around the New Raymer, Stoneham area. They even have some farm ground and ranch ground around Peetz, Colorado and also north of Peetz as well. When they offered me a chance to work for them I took it because I wanted to see how they ran their farm and what makes it successful and ideas that I could implement to my own family farm. The more I learned through my time working the more I wanted to stay and help as well as learn more in depth details about everything they did weather it was spraying or feeding cattle certain rations. My favorite thing I learned from them is this, "If you take care of the ground and the environment, it will take care of you and your crops". This was when my boss Jim and I were talking on our way to Peetz one day. This sealed the idea in my head that dryland no-till is healthy for land in many ways but like every farming technique there is flaws in it as well, like the development of gullies in the fields. Whenever I have the chance to ask a question about a technique I will because it may be in my life one day. "

These students completed the book challenge for first semester. The first and second graders read seven CCBA nominations or winners. Third though twelfth read four fiction CCBA nominations or winners.
