As part of her Social Studies class, Mrs. Krager had her students send postcards to all 50 states to see what kind of response they would get. They were surprised to see that they received 86 responses from 39 states as well as one international response! The students received gifts from Alabama, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, Virginia and Rhode Island! Way to go Mustangs!!

Press Release - Chris Burr Named Permanent Superintendent of Prairie School District R-11J
The Prairie R-11J Board of Education names Chris Burr as the district’s permanent Superintendent of Schools. Mr. Burr will complete his 2nd year as Interim Superintendent of Prairie School in May, before officially beginning his tenure as Superintendent on July 1, 2025. The selection of Mr. Burr is the result of an internal search conducted by the Board of Education. For the past two school years, while serving as Interim, the Board has conducted a thorough and thoughtful collective observation of Burr’s leadership style. With the help of the Board’s lawyer, BOCES, CASB and informal staff input, the BOE decided to post the job internally, alleviating the risk of losing Chris, as well as another expensive/time consuming search.
“We are pleased to welcome Chris as the new superintendent of Prairie School District R-11J," said Board of Education President Ken Holzworth. "His experience as an Educator, Administrator and our own Interim Superintendent and his familiarity with the district makes him an excellent choice to continue to lead our district. He also shares our commitment to provide and expand the educational opportunities for our students." Having been in education for 29 years, with the last 19 in administration, Burr has an abundance of experience. He has been both an elementary and middle school assistant principal and spent six years as a middle school principal before serving as superintendent of the Upper Rio Grande School District in rural southwest Colorado for five years.
"I have learned a great deal in twenty-nine years as an educator... from teacher and coach to administration; all of my experience helps me do my best to help a team create the very best school possible."
Burr received his Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Math and Science from Wright State University, followed by his Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. “I am honored to have been selected as the next leader of the Prairie School District. I spent twenty-nine years teaching and coaching in the State, and I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue to lead the Prairie District,” said Mr. Burr. He will continue in the same position but will no longer be an “Interim”.
Mr. Burr has worked hard to allow for a smooth transition during the past two years, and we are excited to see what happens when everyone settles in. Please drop in and say, "Hi", or catch him on the field with his glove on!

Congratulations to Myer for reaching the 3rd grade AR goal of reading 250,000 words this school year! Keep it up!

3rd Grade Pioneer School was a success! The students dressed the part, made pioneer lunches, made a homemade toy to share with the class, wrote with fountain pens, wrote on slates, read from old readers, jump roped, sang old time songs, played old time games, learned tons of history, and had a blast doing it all.
