Lions Club Speech Contest

TOPIC: “Does getting involved in your community, in causes you care about, empower youth as positive change agents?”

Our hope is that every student has causes that they care about. Write a speech about those causes you care about in your community. The speech contest begins at the local Club level and progresses to District and State levels. The speech should last not less than five (5) minutes and no longer than seven (7) minutes. You may memorize your speech and/or you may use the manuscript or notes.

Contestants must declare themselves as participants by Thursday, March 19, 2020, by calling or texting Carol Lambert at 370-0364 so that parents may be invited to attend. A typewritten copy of the contestant’s speech will be collected by the Prairie Lions Club at the contest. The same speech must be used for all levels of competition. Cash prizes are awarded at all levels of competition:  Local level: 1st--$100; 2nd--$50; 3rd--$25; 4th—$25.  District level: $200 for 1st place, $150 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd and 4th.  State level: 1st--$500; 2nd--$400; 3rd and 4th--$250

Purpose of the Lions Club Youth Speech Contest is to provide an opportunity for public speaking on a subject of interest to contestants and American people, to provide a vehicle for youth and members of Lions Clubs to interact in the community, and to stimulate self-expression and independent thinking. PARENTS AND STUDENTS: This is a great opportunity to improve your public speaking skills and get involved in your community. We, the members of the Prairie Lions Club, are committed to providing opportunities for students to enhance their skills and earn some prize money along the way. Questions and/or to confirm participation: Call or text Carol Lambert at 370-0364.
