Creative Writing

This course is a writing workshop where students write every day, and they will explore different writing techniques and styles. This course emphasizes the development of skills in the creation and study of narrative, short fiction, and poetry writing. Writing skills will be developed through pre-writing, editing, re-writing, and peer-editing. Students will be asked to critique their own work and the work of others in a positive and gentle manner. They will also examine and analysis various styles of writing by reading well-known writers of poetry, short stories, and novels. Students will be expected to incorporate literary devices and sensory details into their own writing. Students must be willing to share their work (except Rip the Page journal); they must be willing to read aloud and share their ideas with the group.
