Speech is a performance course. A variety of speeches will be prepared and presented during the semester. This course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn and practice the communication arts of listening and speaking. As such, the course will give students an opportunity to make diverse presentations in the public realm and improve their presentation skills. Content areas to be covered include audience analysis, speaker and listener responsibilities, and listening, planning, researching, organizing, and delivering presentations. The major speeches include, but are not limited to: short informative speech, teaching/demonstration speech, persuasive speech, researched informative speech in addition to impromptu speeches. We will also memorize and give an interpretive reading to practice vocalization skills.
