Sophomores do much of the same coursework as freshman, but at a high level of critical thinking.  Sophomore students continue to read from the Prentice Hall Literature books for their literature, literary understanding, and reading skills.  Students will write various responses to literature using research, analysis, and persuasion skills.  Numerous essays will include research, problem/solution, response to prompts, business letter, cause/effect.  Classic novels will be read with teacher support and guidance including Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and other novels to be decided within the class. Group projects and presentations will also be required along with creating and presenting a variety of visual and written projects.
