EXCEL (spreadsheets)

EXCEL is offered to high school students as a computer application credit. Students learn the rudimentary procedures for creating spreadsheets. Within the semester course (offered during the second semester of the year) students work with "real world" application spreadsheets to create budgets for college expenses, business expenses spreadsheets, monthly house payments, car payments, simple interest and compound interest calculations. The physical appearance of the spreadsheet is emphasized within the layout of the page. A variety of graphs are utilized within throughout the course which includes line graphs, pie charts, bar graphs, and a large diversity of layouts. Students are expected to think independently and spell correctly on their spreadsheets as this prepares them to utilize these techniques in secondary and post-secondary environments. The use of spreadsheets in our technological world may impact the computer work place.
