Algebra II

Algebra II is offered to students who have taken both Algebra I and Geometry.  During the year students will be introduced to complex linear equations, the quadraic equation, the quadratic formula, polar and rectangular coordinates, right triangle trigonometry application problems, complex numbers, solving equations with fractional denominators, direct and inverse variations, solving and graphing systems of equations (both linear and non-linear), and conic sections (introduction).  The textbook that is currently being used is "Algebra II" by Holt, Rinehart, and Winston.  Enrichment activities include student participation at the U.N.C. Math Contest.  In addition, students with a high degree of math-science aptitude are invited to participate in N.J.C.'s Math-Science Contest in April.  Graphing calculators are a requirement for the class.
