Our Area

Prairie School is located in Weld County in northeastern Colorado. The climate in the summer months is dry with low humidity and the winter months are mild. The short-grass prairie offers opportunities for recreation, wildlife study, sightseeing, photography and bird watching. This area, which is home to over 290 species, is nationally known to bird watchers. The Pawnee Buttes tower 250 feet above the prairie and are a popular destination for hikers, horseback riders and day-trippers. Prairie School is located between the towns of New Raymer and Stoneham, Colorado.

Our District

The district covers 676 square miles although its buses cover 865 square miles. The school has an approximate student population of 160 pre-school through 12th grade. An elementary school-preschool through sixth grades, a junior-senior high, a bus barn, and three houses are included on the immediate school grounds. Strong pride is taken in the school facilities.

The adminstrators, educators, and support staff are career professionals. The staff has a very low turnover rate. Teachers and administrators belong to professional organizations. The district maintains a strong special education program, utilizes support services from BOCES, and provides academic and vo-technical education. We are a state-accredited school implementing standards and assessments. Prairie School believes all students can learn and strives to provide all students with a high quality education.
